Summary

A park was built during the formation of the first phase of Roopanagar, adjacent to the Deepa Recreation Club. This had many trees, water bodies, walking path etc. However, due to neglect, the entire area was covered in weeds and thick shrubs. NRRWA, together with the support of the residents, has resolved to renovate the park and make it available for the residents again.

Background:

  • Suvarna Vana, one of the ‘GREEN BELT’ in Roopangara, with an area measuring 38,500 sq. ft, was planned and designed by late Sri S. Suvarna at the time of forming 1st phase of Roopanagara.
  • Located in a strategic place, near to Deepa Recreation club, it has/had trees, flowering plants, flowering creepers, waterbodies, fountains, lighting arrangements and benches for visitors to sit.
  • It had its own glamour, residents regularly visiting the place for morning and evening walk.
  • It has 3 gates, South side wide gate, West side gate and recreation club side grate
  • There is a statue of Mother Kaveri, from the pot held by her, water used to flow down to water bodies and fountains. Nothing is operating now. Over a period of time, due to maintenance related issues, it has lost its beauty and now nobody visits the place as it is covered by weeds and thick shrubs. Several efforts were made by the residents to bring back its allure, but in vain. It is surrounded by compound wall on 3 sides, one side is covered partly by DRC wall and barbed wire fence.

Importance of the project:

  • This Green belt is neglected and not used by the public now.
  • By keeping some of the structures, it is possible to make it a beautiful green belt again.
  • Maintenance of greenery in a systematic way will help flora and fauna.
  • Nuisance to residents of a neglected area can be avoided – it has become a breeding place for rodents and snakes.
  • Public can use it for daily walk, without hindrance from traffic and stray dogs.
  • Centrally Located and hence accessible to Senior Citizens of Roopangara and around.
